Waiting List Status

I recently sent an email to Marilyn @ Horizon Bay inquiring about Mom's place on the waiting list.  Here is the reply I got back:

Hi David!!!

I am doing well…. Thanks for asking!  I hope you are too!?!  I looked on my Status Board…. Mom’s looking for a 1 bedroom…. There are 7 people ahead of mom, but I think only 3 of them are viable right now….the other’s are planning to move later….. at least that’s what I think, for whatever that’s worth.  We haven’t had any notices the last few months, but have still had move ins/outs.  These have been due to deaths and needing a higher level of care.  At this very moment we have several people in the hospital…. and wonder about a few of them being able to return to Horizon Bay.  I have loved seeing your mom at the parties and am excited that she is feeling better about coming to live with us!  I also appreciate your patience!  If I had to guess, and David that’s all this is…. I would think there is a good chance you guys might get a call anywhere between now and the next couple of months.  Does that help at all?  Tell mom she needs to come to the Mother/Daughter ‘High Tea’, wearing her hat and gloves, on May 11 @ 2:30 and the Sock Hop on May 19 @ 4:30…. There will be a prize for best 50s costume and we will be serving supper! J

Tell me what’s up with you!!!

Smiles,
marilyn

On another note, I plan to take an extra day off from work for my upcoming visit to Bossier.  This means I 'should' be able to come up there on Tuesday April 26th and go back on Tuesday May 3rd.  This is subject to approval at work though....but it usually gets approved.

Another thing on my schedule is that I have been selected by the reserves to go on a 2 week annual tour to Aviano Air Base in Italy from May 31st till June 16th.  The down side of this is that I won't get to spend anything more than a day at Mom's for the month of June AND it runs the risk of me being away at a bad time if we get the call to move her into Horizon Bay.  I guess we'll just have to deal with that if it happens.  The up side of the trip is that I will make a significant chunk of change, mulaa, deneiro, $$, Benjamins, whatever you want to call it, and this money will be deposited into Mom's account for Horizon Bay.

Also while on the subject of money, Judy when you get the check for Mom's car just go ahead and put it in a safe place and hang onto it as I will be there in town in less than a week to deposit it.  I would rather do that than risk it getting lost or misdelivered in the mail system.  If Mom insists on keeping it at her house that's OK just make sure that somebody other than her knows where it is stashed in case she forgets.

OK enough rambling on my part....somebody else's turn now.   ;-)

From Jerry

O.K. I think we're all on board with the latest issue with Mother, concerning her med's. She is not capable of administering them safely, or even at all. But it goes further than that, I don't think she is hydrating or nourishing her body (eating) when none of us are there. She's told Judy that she does'nt "like to eat." I don't think thats true, what she means is that she does not or will not prepare anything to eat. I think we've all seen her in action at the dinner table, she will eat every morsel of whatever is put in front of her.

Richard and I have worked out an alternating schedule so that one of us will be there Mon-Fri every week and Judy can cover the weekends. We are going to have to keep her meds away from her and personally see to it twice a day that she is taking them. I know it's going to be hard to deal with but we can no longer trust her to do these things for herself. This includes not only the med's but seeing to it that she is eating regularly and hydrating herself. The Nurse(Elizabeth) at the cardiology clinic stressed how important it was for her to adequately hydrate her body and suggested three bottles of water daily. I will be at Mother's this friday and stay through her birthday. David and I will get a head start at disposing of non-essential items. Please, if anybody wants to add comments, do so.

Judy's email

I just talked to Barry at Wheels & Deals a minute ago. He said to just get her to sign the back of the title and bring it to him tomorrow, but call him first so that he'll be there to receive it. He explained that he is going through a finance company for the new owners (he did not say who they were and how much he sold it to them for. I might ask him tomorrow out of curiosity). He has to make a new title once he gets the old one signed and then he can cut a check probably the next day (Tuesday or Wednesday). This way Mother won't have to go over there at all.

After further thought about the yard/garage sale Mother wants to have, and the wait time on the Horizon Bay list, it might be better for us to go ahead and have one since you can come back on the weekends. That way she can be involved and we can be getting a lot of the smaller stuff out of the way. We should let her put that money she makes into her old (Capital One) checking account and she'll feel better. She thought for some reason the car profit would be going into her old account. When I explained to her that it was going into her new special account David had set up for her, she got very upset and said she did not know about that and "no one told her about that". I tried to jog her memory about the night when David, Jerry and I explained all that to her in her living room, but she did not remember it. So, that's why I think we ought to let her put money from the yard/garage sale into her old account. She always loved to have those garage sales anyway to make some extra money, so, this might make her a little happier. We could still put the money we make from the Estate Sale into her new account after she moves into HB.

OK, hope we're all on the same page. Sorry about the blog, I'll keep trying. I'll go through the Google account again and try to change the password again. Last time I instructed the computer to "remember this password on this site", but something went haywire again.

Ok left a comment under Jerry's Estate Sale April 9. not sure how this works but I will try to keep up to speed. Chris

From Richard

I won't be able to come up next week. Between tax and licensing the new motorhome, IRS and La. income tax, we are virtually broke for the rest of the month. Chris has three days of sub'ing next week and I HAVE to get the old motorhome ready to sell. Finally got the plumber here this week and I have been finishing up on all that. Now I have all kinds of driveway and dirt work to do to get everything back to normal.

On a Mother note, am I the only one that she complains to about her car? It seems to be a real bone of contention with her. At least to me anyway. Maybe it's because I took it over there...
Dave, I did not get by there (primarily forgot) to check the mileage.

Also, has anyone helped Judy figure out what she needs to do to get on this blog. She says she doesn't know what password she chose. Sigh......

Judy, if you recovered your memory and read this, let me know if you cannot get Momma to where she needs to go. I can come up for a day, but not stay.

From Jerry...

I got Mother to her Dr.'s appointment on Wednesday. They did bloodwork & an ekg. The person we saw and talked to has a real friendly and warm personality. Her name is Elizabeth and she is a
nurse/practioner (?). Ekg results indicated no problems with Mom's heart. The ultrasound tests were discussed and will be scheduled after her next appointment. We discussed all of her meds & did away with some and added some more. Her blood pressure has been really high every day I've been here (150 to 180 on the hi side). Her next appointment is 13 May 2011 at 9:20 am and they will evaluate the effect the new meds have had on her blood pressure, then schedule additional testing. Judy will have to get mother to her next bowling outing but I will be back here the following week to take her to the last bowling venture of the season, and I plan on staying through her birthday. I hope we can all be here for that, and we need to go all out, with presents and a cake.

I'll be leaving tomorrow (Friday) after I drop Mom off at her weekly card playing location, Judy will pick her up and bring her home. If anyone has any idea's about what we can do to make Mother's Birthday something special, post them on this site. Dave, the Bible rebinding is a good idea, I'll talk to Judy about that tomorrow before I leave.

It's late, I'm sleepy, goodnight.

Estate Sale Planning

Mom wants to have a garage sale to get rid of some of her stuff like clothes and knick-knacks.  I would like to know everyone's opinion on whether we should have this garage sale "before" we move her into Horizon Bay, or hold it afterwards and do it along with the estate sale.  And as far as the estate sale, should we bring Mom back to her house to help with it?  I'm torn because if we don't she will feel left "out of the loop" and probably be mad but if she is there trying to help in the midst of all that confusion she will be extremely stressed and confused by all the information to process.  Each of you please let me know what you think.
